How ELO Works
The math behind your Moggle rank — explained clearly.
What is ELO?
ELO is a rating system originally developed by physicist Arpad Elo for chess. It measures the relative skill of players in zero-sum games — if you beat a stronger player, you gain more rating than if you beat a weaker one. If you lose to a weaker player, you lose more.
The key insight: every match updates both players' ratings simultaneously, so the leaderboard stays self-correcting over time.

The Formula
Two steps are calculated after every battle:
Step 1 — Expected Score
Expected = 1 / (1 + 10^((OpponentELO - YourELO) / 400))
This is a probability between 0 and 1 — how likely you were to win based on ratings alone.
Step 2 — ELO Change
ELO Change = 32 × (Actual - Expected) Actual = 1 if you won, 0 if you lost
Example Calculations
Beating a higher-rated opponent
Losing to a lower-rated opponent
